Jellyfish Cut and Paste Craft with Free Printable Template

Ocean themed crafts are always a favorite around here, especially simple printable activities that are easy to set up. This jellyfish cut and paste craft turned out so cute, and it’s one of those activities that works well for quiet afternoons, classroom centers, or summer themed craft days.

The best part is that there’s a free printable pattern available, so prep is really simple. Just print, color, cut, and glue. It’s an easy ocean craft that doesn’t require a lot of supplies, which I always appreciate.

I also love how customizable these jellyfish can be. Some were made with bright rainbow colors while others were done in soft ocean shades. Every jellyfish ended up looking completely different, and that’s what makes printable crafts so fun.

This beach animal craft is especially great for preschool and kindergarten because it gives plenty of opportunities to practice fine motor skills while still feeling creative and relaxed.

How to make this Jellyfish Craft

Step 1: Print the template

Start by printing the free printable jellyfish pattern. You can print as many copies as you need.

The printable includes the jellyfish body and different tentacle pieces. I like that there are two tentacle styles because it lets everyone create a unique jellyfish.

You can print as many copies as you’d like for crafting at home or group activities.

Step 2: Color the jellyfish pieces

Color all of the pieces before cutting them out.

This is probably the most relaxing part of the craft. Bright colors look really fun for this ocean craft. Blues, pinks, purples, and greens all work perfectly.

You can also add extra details like dots, stripes, or little highlights to the tentacles.

Step 3: Cut out the template pieces

Carefully cut out the jellyfish body and tentacles.

For preschool and kindergarten ages, this step is great cutting practice. The wavy tentacles give a little extra challenge without being too difficult.

If needed, the tentacles can also be pre-cut ahead of time.

Step 4: Glue the tentacles onto the jellyfish

Flip the jellyfish body over and glue the tentacles onto the back.

You can arrange them in different ways to create your own design. Some jellyfish look cute with evenly spaced tentacles while others look fun with mixed lengths and colors.

A fun ocean craft for summer

This printable jellyfish activity fits perfectly into an ocean craft theme. It also works really well for summer crafting because the bright colors and sea life theme feel cheerful and fun.

I always end up pulling out ocean themed crafts once warmer weather starts. There’s just something about sea animals, beach themes, and colorful underwater creatures that makes crafting feel extra creative.

This jellyfish craft can also be paired with other ocean activities like:

It makes a nice addition to an ocean unit study or an under the sea themed week too.

Perfect for Preschool and Kindergarten

One thing I really like about this beach craft is how adaptable it is for different ages.

For preschool kids, the craft helps with:

  • Coloring practice
  • Scissor skills
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Gluing practice

For kindergarten, it also encourages:

  • Creative choices
  • Following steps
  • Fine motor development
  • Independent crafting

Since the printable pieces are simple and bold, younger crafters can work on the activity without getting frustrated.

Easy classroom or group craft

This jellyfish cut and paste craft also works really well in group settings.

Because the supplies are minimal, it’s easy to prep for classrooms, library activities, summer camps, or craft groups. Printing the templates ahead of time keeps setup quick and manageable.

I also like crafts that don’t create a huge mess, especially during busy weeks. This one stays pretty simple from start to finish.

Another fun idea is hanging the finished jellyfish from the ceiling or displaying them on a bulletin board to create an underwater scene.

Creative ways to customize the jellyfish

There are lots of ways to make this printable craft even more creative.

Here are a few fun ideas:

  • Add glitter to the tentacles
  • Use watercolor paints instead of markers
  • Print on colored paper
  • Add googly eyes
  • Glue on sequins or tissue paper
  • Curl the tentacles slightly for extra movement

Sometimes the simplest printable crafts end up being the most fun because there’s so much room for creativity.
