Build Your Own Ice Cream Craft Sundae – Color Cut Paste Printable
If your preschooler, kindergartener, or early elementary-aged child loves coloring and cutting paper, this craft is going to be a hit. They’ll have so much fun pretending to make their own desserts.
It’s a super easy cut and paste ice cream craft that’s perfect for quiet afternoons, rainy days, or when you just need something simple to set up.

I made this printable with summer in mind, but honestly, it works any time of year. It’s one of those food crafts that brings out the creativity without any sugar highs or mess in the kitchen. Just print, color, cut, and glue: done.
This ice cream sundae template is designed so kids can build their own ice cream creation, layering scoops and toppings however they like. It’s the kind of activity that doesn’t need much help from grown-ups, which makes it great for independent play too.
What you’ll need
If you want to make the sundae extra sturdy, you can print the template on cardstock. But regular heavy printer paper works too!

How to make the Ice Cream Craft Sundae
Step 1: Print the template
Start by printing out the sundae template. It includes the bowl, several scoops, a spoon, cherries, strawberries, and some toppings.

Step 2: Color everything in
Let your child go wild coloring each piece. This is where the “build your own ice cream” part comes in. Strawberry, chocolate, or mint ice cream, it’s fun to see what “flavors” they imagine.

Step 3: Cut out the pieces
Once everything’s colored in, help your child cut out each shape. Or let them do it themselves if they’re practicing scissors. The outlines are bold and easy to follow.

Step 4: Arrange the sundae
Now they get to build it! Layer the scoops, add toppings, place the cherry, and don’t forget the spoon. There’s no wrong way to stack their sundae.

Step 5: Glue it all together
Once they’re happy with the layout, they can glue everything down on a blank piece of paper. You’ll end up with a cute finished sundae that’s fridge-worthy for sure.

Step 6: Add a background
Glue everything onto a colored piece of paper to finish your craft!
Tip: For younger kids, it might be easier to glue the bowl onto a piece of paper first, then build the ice cream on top. This helps keep everything in place while they work!
A few fun add-Ons
Want to take the craft a little further? Try these:
- Use tiny paper scraps as sprinkles
- Add real sequins for a sparkly topping
- Turn the finished sundae into a handmade card
- Have them name their ice cream creation and write it on the page
This is also an easy one to turn into a group activity. Just print out a few copies, put out a pile of crayons and scissors, and let each child design their own sundae. They’ll love comparing “flavors”.

Why this food craft works so well
I love having activities like this on hand that don’t take long to prep but still feel creative and fun. It’s low-mess, screen-free, and lets your child practice both fine motor skills and creative thinking. Plus, it’s just cute. Who doesn’t love an ice cream sundae?
