My 10 Favorite Single Line Writing Fonts for Cricut
If you’ve ever tried to make your Cricut write with a pen instead of cutting, you’ve probably noticed something strange: most fonts don’t actually write as you expect. Instead of a clean, handwritten look, Cricut draws each letter with two lines, creating what’s often called the “bubble effect.”
That’s because most fonts are designed for cutting, not writing. They are made of outlines, so when Cricut traces them with a pen, you get double lines.
The solution? Single line fonts, also called Cricut writing fonts. These are designed to be written with a pen.
To help you get started, I’ve put together a list of 10 of my favorite writing fonts for Cricut. They’re perfect for greeting cards, invitations, gift tags, or any project where you want beautiful handwritten lettering.

Q&A: Using Single Line Fonts with Cricut
Why do some single line fonts come with two versions?
Many designers include both an outline version and a true single line version. If the font designer doesn’t provide details, I recommend simply installing both. That way, you can test which one works best in Cricut Design Space.
I can’t find the font in Cricut Design Space, what should I do?
First, make sure you’ve installed the font on your computer. Then, always close and re-open Design Space after a new font download so it refreshes. Once reopened, check under the “System” tab in the fonts menu, that’s where your downloaded fonts appear.
How do I make sure Cricut writes instead of cuts?
Select your text, then go to the top menu and change the “Operation” setting to Writing > Pen. This tells Cricut to use your pen tool for writing instead of cutting outlines.
How do I find my single line fonts in Design Space?
When you’re choosing fonts in Design Space, go to the “System” tab (not Cricut fonts). This is where all your downloaded fonts will appear.
That’s it! Some of my favorite Cricut writing fonts! I hope it gives you some new ideas for your next project. Using single line fonts really changes the game when you want that handwritten look with your Cricut pens.
I always get excited trying out new fonts, especially when I stumble across a free single line font that’s just perfect. Hopefully, you found a few here you’d like to test out too.
